let's talk about the location

Choosing locations for different parts of your wedding day, such as your ceremony and formal portraits, doesn't have to be complicated. With a little bit of forethought and planning, you'll be able to choose beautiful locations with gorgeous lighting that will make your wedding photos even more stunning!

Before setting a ceremony time, try to visit your venue around the time you're thinking of holding your ceremony in relation to when the sun sets. For example, if you're thinking of having a 4:00 ceremony on a day when the sun sets at 6:00, then make sure on the day you visit your venue, you're there about 2 hours before the sun sets that day.

tip: look up the sunset time on your wedding day and plan on holding your ceremony about 1.5 to 2 hours before the sun sets

Depending on where your venue is located, you might find that the time you had in mind is just right or the light might still be super harsh. I promise that adjusting that ceremony time is worth it. The ceremony is the one part of the day where we have to work with whatever the lighting situation is at that time because I won't be able to move you two around, so planning around the lighting is ideal to make sure your photos are the best they can be!

a few tips:

• Visit your venue about 2 hours before sunset and choose a time for the ceremony based on the way the light is

• If there are spots at your venue that you really love but the light would be less than ideal during the ceremony, we can still utilize these spots for your formal portraits or family photos! Don't worry- we'll document all those gorgeous features that made your venue steal your heart!

• If you'd like, we can set up a time to walk through the venue together and I can help you pick out spots for photos and your ceremony!
